She was just walking home

For women and girls it’s a scary would we live in, where 97% of women have experienced sexual harassment.

Every woman I know has either been sexually assaulted or knows somebody that has. Men with little education always criticise and ask why women don’t report their assaults. Approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men are raped every year in England and Wales, 15% of those report it and only 7.5% result in a conviction.

Why would I want to raise a girl up in a world where they are constantly sexualised in everything the do and don’t have the support and the safety of our police system. A world in which police officers ‘fake arrest’ a woman who was walking home from a friends house, only to be driven to a secluded area to be raped and murdered and then shoved into a freezer and burnt.

I understand that most police officers love their job and are good at it, but it is the system that is failing us. I am proud to be a woman, but it is sad that I am able to empathise with victims of sexual assault and abuse, because I am also a survivor.

You never think it’ll happen to you, till it does.
